All About Kitchen Knives

Are you in the market for new kitchen knives? If so, you have probably discovered that just going out and buying a new set is not as easy as it once was. Today, the market is flooded with all types of knives made from different manufacturers. Trying to determine the type of kitchen knives that you need is a daunting task. After all, you have so many choices of material to include fully forged, high carbon, bolstered steel blades. Then you consider the handle construction, not to mention the design to include textured, molded, seamless, riveted, and so on.

For starters, if you want good kitchen knives but find yourself on a budget, then you can still purchase quality knives that are great for balance and maneuverability but at an affordable price. Typically, expect to pay between $80 and $200 for a good lower priced set but keep in mind, these kitchen knives will last you years. For instance, Global knives are made without seams with a stainless steel handle. Made in Japan, the blade is thinner and more angled than what you would find with American or German knives but they work well. The only thing you need to be careful of is the short handle, which can cause the grip to slip.

Another good option for kitchen knives is made by Santoku knife. These knives are popular among homemakers and professional chefs alike. The shape is nice and the price even better. The only thing consumers did not like was that with Santoku kitchen knives the blades tend to be too short, making them a bad choice for cutting bone. However, for everyday cooking needs, these knives work well and they come at an affordable price.

Next on our list of kitchen knives is Boker, which makes a number of options. One of the favorites is the Kyocera blades, which are made from zirconium oxide. These kitchen knives are lightweight but the blades will remain sharp for quite some time. F. Dick is another company that sells kitchen knives. This German company makes forged traditional patterns that work exceptionally well and are not overly expensive.

Another option for kitchen knives is from a Swedish company called Fallkniven. The knives are actually imported from Japan but they are made from high-tech steel with hard blades, sharp angles, and superior cutting. J.A. Henckels is yet another company that makes knives. Located in German, this company has been making kitchen knives for more than 100 years, producing quality knives that are priced right.
