Kitchen Mixers

Guide to Buying Kitchen Mixers

One of the most used small appliances by any cook is kitchen mixers.  Whether you choose a heavy duty stand mixer that has the power to turn heavy dough or just need a lightweight hand mixer to whip up creamy desserts and whipped creams, consider your option before you buy.  For decades, a trusty kitchen mixer has served as a companion and workhorse for top chefs and home cooks alike.  The market for kitchen mixers is continually expanding so that your choices are seemingly unlimited, meaning that there is a mixer out there that fits all of your needs.

The first choice you must make when deciding between kitchen mixers is stand or hand held.  A stand mixer is typically a larger, heavier, and more powerful option that is perfect for individuals who need a work horse.  Especially if you are an avid baker, a stand mixer is probably your best choice.  Stand mixers hold a specially designed bowl that must be used in coordination with the mixer.  Also, stand mixers have several different options and attachments available, allowing you to open cans, make sausages, grind meat, make pasta, and even make ice cream by using the same machine.  Although stand kitchen mixers are a great purchase, the price is often a great deal more than hand mixers and the size may be too large for small kitchens.

For those needing less power and more portability in kitchen mixers, then the best choice is probably a hand mixer.  A hand mixer is a great deal smaller, cheaper, and lighter than stand mixers.  Furthermore, hand mixers allow you to mix in any container you wish, since there is no attachment that requires a special bowl.  Hand mixers should be used for lightweight jobs, since they have small motors that can easily burn out when mixing heavy batters.  Furthermore, hand kitchen mixers do not come with additional attachments like stand mixers, but they are great for individuals with small spaces and budgets.

By far, the most popular brand of kitchen mixers is KitchenAid.  Making mixers for almost a century, the company produces top of the line models that are often sold to commercial bakeries, restaurants, and food suppliers.  There are several different models of KitchenAid mixers and the accessory list is long and varied.  However, KitchenAid mixers do come with a steep price tag, which may put it out of reach for many individuals.  If you have your heart set on owning KitchenAid kitchen mixers, consider buying one reconditioned or second hand.

Another historic manufacturer of kitchen mixers is Sunbeam.  The MixMaster was a kitchen staple for many years and probably had a home in your mother’s or grandmother’s kitchen.  Today, Sunbeam mixers are back and better than ever, with modern technology accented by vintage design.  In addition to Sunbeam mixers, Jen Air has produced a line of kitchen mixers and other small appliances that are a beauty to look at as well as to use.

For hand kitchen mixers, there are more options available.  From Cuisinart and KitchenAid to Black and Decker and Hamilton Beach, you are certain to find a hand mixer that suits your needs and budget.  Even though inexpensive kitchen mixers may be appealing to your budget, you will spend more in the end if you have to replace cheap models when the motors burn out.
