Kitchen Decor

Country Kitchen Décor

One of the most popular designs in kitchen décor is the country kitchen. Although the theme has several variations, these kitchens are a delight to design and use. Consider mixing country with other styles to get a uniquely blended look that will fit a myriad of tastes and styles. Also, look to the countless variations of the country theme before you decide to snap up every rooster, hen, cow, and pig accessory that is typically associated with country kitchen décor.

Just because you choose country kitchen décor does not mean that you kitchen cannot be elegant and upscale. Instead of drenching your kitchen in everything country, consider using certain design elements that will bring the theme home. Look to install a traditional farmhouse sink with an exposed apron in a kitchen that uses sleek stainless steel appliances to create a unique look. Pair distressed kitchen cabinets with glossy granite countertops to merge several design styles in your kitchen. For inspirations, there are countless magazines, books, and publications that spotlight country kitchen décor that can help your find your own personal style.

One popular variation of the typical country kitchen décor is that of French country.  Typically using a color palate of blues, yellows, and creams, French country tends to have a more upscale look than typical country style. Use fabrics that are toile prints that feature your accent colors. Toile is a type of print that repeats a pattern that usually includes landscapes, animals, flowers, or people but only uses one or two colors. Widely associated with French design, toile is a great accent for window treatments, table linens, chair cushions, lampshades, kitchen linens, and even appears on dishes. In addition to toile, consider using a pattern of blue and yellow stripes or fabrics that have roosters, since they are central to French country kitchen décor.

Keeping with the theme of international kitchen décor, consider giving your kitchen an Italian flair.  Pull inspiration from Tuscan country kitchens by using earth tones and natural elements like tumbled marble and terra cotta tiles. A big part of Italian country décor is appreciation of nature and food, which is why fruit and vegetables often appear in the fabrics and accessories. For wall coverings, consider creating a textured wall that mimics those colorful Tuscan facades in the homes and buildings of the area. Turn to warm colors like vibrant reds, mustard hues of yellow and orange shades associated with terra cotta. Additionally, use metal elements like wrought iron to add a unique texture to the kitchen and focus on keeping things simple and rustic. Hang bunches of dried herbs, peppers, and garlic from kitchen windows or exposed rafters to continue the theme and add to your kitchen décor.
