Kitchen Nook

What to do with that Kitchen Nook?

If the most popular room in your home has a kitchen nook or some other cranny, you may be at a loss on how to decorate this space. There are countless options when it comes to the actual decoration of the nook, so consider the option that will work the best for you. Furthermore, consider a design option that will best fit inside the nook without overwhelming the space. Having a nook can be a great place to tuck away a cozy table for two, necessary desk space, or unique display space. Whatever you choose to do with your kitchen nook, keep in mind that when you design a space to fit your needs, you meet success.

One great idea is to transform your kitchen nook from unused space to an elegant eating area. Depending on the size, you may want to have a banquet seat built and turn the traditional eating table and chains into more of a booth design. Also, consider creating a cozy table for two in an unoccupied corner so that you and the special someone can both enjoy the space. If your kitchen nook is large enough, consider adding a full sized table and chairs in order to create an eat-in kitchen.

Another great idea to utilize your kitchen nook is to design a small office that can be tucked away into a corner. This office may be more modest than your dream home office, but it work towards the same goal. Add an electric plug, telephone outlet, or high speed internet connection to this space so that you can set up your home computer in your new office. Also, develop a storage system that tracks your bills and other expenses in addition to serving as a spot for filing paperwork and catching the mail when it arrives. Do not forget to include a message or bulletin board so that you can keep track of the activities for the entire family. Turning your kitchen nook into a small office can also provide your child with a space to do his or her homework and allow him or her with a monitored spot to access the World Wide Web.

Consider turning your kitchen nook into a display corner for your favorite treasures. Display old kitchen related furniture like a Kitchen Queen or a Hoosier Cabinet. Hang a series of shelves and display your collection of antique mixing bowls or vintage stand mixers. Also, create a clever display using a collection of antique kitchen tools, gadgets, and gizmos. Finally, display your collection of dishes or that set of your grandmother’s china in a china cabinet or some other display cabinet. This unique and previously unused kitchen nook can be turned from the ordinary into the extraordinary.
