Kitchen Lighting

Buying New Kitchen Lighting

Are you looking for a simple and affordable way to change the look and feel of your kitchen – consider kitchen lighting. For some reason, people wanting something new overlook the power that changing out kitchen lighting has. With the kitchen being the heart of the home, the one room that sees more action than any other room, it certainly deserves to be updated. Just remember, you can find new lighting at your local home improvement store or a lighting store where there are hundreds of excellent options.

Kitchen lighting can set the entire mood of the room. If you want something with color and class, then you could choose Tiffany lighting. If you prefer something on the contemporary side, you could always go with some of the newer type track lighting. However, if you love the retro look with color, charm, and interest, a hand blown pendant lighting would work beautifully. In other words, kitchen lighting comes in so many wonderful choices, styles, shapes, colors, and designs, that no matter your goal, you will have excellent choices.

Now, you need to remember there are three primary layers of kitchen lighting. First, you have general lighting, which is what helps illuminate the entire room. Second, there is task lighting, which would be over the counter type lighting, perfect to help you see when cutting up food. Finally, you have accent lighting, which would be used to create warmth, drama, and visual interest. With this type of kitchen lighting, you can make the light a part of the overall décor.

One of the most important considerations when buying kitchen lighting is the placement. Remember, if you have an existing light that you no longer want, you can always have it removed. In other words, you do not simply have to place kitchen lighting where lighting is already installed. Instead, consider hiring an electrician or if you know how to wire lighting, choose a better location if needed. The placement of the lighting will depend on the area you want illuminated and the overall effect you want to achieve.

For under the counter kitchen lighting, we recommend you stay away from incandescent lights. While these lights product a nice glow, they also get extremely hot. Instead, fluorescent lighting would be a much better choice. If you want to add ambience and interest over kitchen cabinets, you could choose cove lighting. Accent kitchen lighting is probably the most overlooked and definitely one of the better solutions for adding charm. With this type of kitchen lighting, you want a soft glow, perhaps something that creates a nice soft light in the corner for reading or just accent on a piece of art.
